You are one of many travelers in the caravan of humanity moving toward our light. What position do you want to take and why? Perhaps the parable of Buddha’s traveling student can help you on your way.
The Parable of Two Travelers and the Caravan
Two travelers waited at the head of a caravan traveling to the market to sell their goods. The first traveler had several wagons and many men. The second traveler, a student of Buddha, realized that they could not go down the road together. One of them would have to go first and the other second.
The student asked his companion whether he wanted to be first or second. The man answered that he would go first in the caravan. He would not be bothered by ruts created by those before him. His oxen would get the first grazing on fresh grass, and he would get to gather food before the others. Also, the streams and ponds would have clearer water before others arrived.
The student of Buddha thought the man foolish and agreed. The student would have a better road by going second because the first carts would have smoothed the bumps. The first traveler’s oxen would have eaten the tall, tough grass, and his beasts could eat the tender shoots below. As the first man and his men foraged for food, they would have cleared the old and left behind the newer and easier to gather leaves and roots. When the first traveler could not find water, he would dig wells that would give water to those who followed.
The first traveler encountered many hardships because he did not know what to expect on this new road. Whenever the student caught up to him, he would listen to the first traveler’s stories and learn, which made his journey easier.
When they reach the market, the first traveler was too exhausted to get his goods set up for sale. However, the second felt strong. He set up his goods and prospered from his journey.
The Conga Line
The conga line is a caravan of spiritual travelers, each driving our cartful of past life experiences. At the head of the line is the highest frequency masters we have had on the planet. At the end is the lowest frequency being who volunteered to be the last through the door of our evolution. And, bless this volunteer because someone must be the last to evolve.
Each of us has our spot in the caravan depending on our current frequency, what we have packed in our spiritual suitcase, and how quickly we are willing to surrender. It does not matter where we are in this conga line. What matters is what and how we are learning.
We have the choice to look to those who have gone before us and learn from their experiences or to think we have to create a new way. You know I am fully New Age in this life, but I honor and respect the voices of all great spiritual traditions. I know the importance of listening to those who have gone before me to understand what aspects of New Age make sense and which ones are merely “new ways” that won’t work for me.
You have the same challenge. Are you learning from those who have gone before you to help you find the right path? Or, are you a stubborn spiritual teenager wanting to find your way to do it and making the journey more difficult?
You know there is no one road to Ascension, and we must each find the path that works best for us. But you do not need to lead the caravan. Let those who volunteered to go first and maneuver through the unknown show you the easier way.
