We have an old saying that your home is where your heart is. But your spiritual truth is that home is in your heart. So, does it matter where you are in the physical world? Full-time life on the road is interesting. It’s not for everyone. We have no “home” in the traditional sense. We do not go back to a house, an apartment, or a condo to spend time. Instead, we rent a room and have our belongings in storage. When required, we return to our base to take care of business and hit the road again.

There was a day when one would seldom see a single woman traveling alone, but not today. I do not mean traveling to visit family or for business. I mean as a way of life. My husband and I have been traveling full-time in our RV for more than eight years. We have been camping for more than forty years, and not until a few years ago have we seen so many single women out by themselves. The big surprise was the number of women over sixty-five making a life on the road alone.

A stress-free life is an integral part of spiritual life. And, who doesn’t want to live stress-free? We all want to live in peace, ease, and joy. We would love to live free of worry, anxiety, and stress. But that is not the usual way of life for most human beings. True spiritual masters maintain a blissful state of detachment at all times. No matter what happens, they can remain centered and see all events as part of the illusion.

I recently heard a great line on a television show, “They say youth is wasted on the young but I believe that wisdom is wasted on the old.” The point was that the wisdom of the elders is most often ignored by the young. When we are young, we tend to think we know it all and can’t believe that those who have gone before us know what they are talking about. Sound familiar?

Why do I love Yogananda? Because of the honesty and humility with which he shares his struggle in the early years of his life. Arrogant, stubborn, and a bit self-righteous as a youth, he still become one of our greatest spiritual masters.
